I am excited Tloponline is up and running. I am just starting out in the mortgage industry as an MLO having just passed my NMLS. I want to establish a presence online to help generate leads and build connections. The only resources or tools that I know of to do this are LinkedIn and Zillow. What other tools, platforms or sites would be good for me to start using regularly to help my career growth?

Hello, Garrett. Want to know an underserved platform to assist and make connections? It sounds crazy, but check out Reddit. Thousands of young users looking to buy homes, asking a plethora of question on subreddits such as the /RealEstate subreddit. I’ve made a lot of friends on that subreddit. Although I have not generated a lead, I’ve casted my lines in the water. One helpful conversation with one person could lead to 1-4 loans down the road!

Hi Garrett, Your best bet is to compile a list of realtors in your area and start calling them. Building up a solid book of referral partners will make your career as a MLO very lucrative. Listen to TLOP episode 184: The 12 Week Challenge Redux. Its hands down one of the best episodes.

Check out Experience.com or Birdeye for managing your reviews and getting those reviews posted to your social sites. On-line lead gen is a massive up-hill battle. You are fighting LendingTree, Zillow, Rocket, Better etc and their massive ad budgets. Of all the mortgage millionaires I know personally, they did so by becoming their community’s expert and built out a network of clients, past-clients and referral sources who all consistently bring them new business. Oh…and they do an awesome job and are true advisors 🙂
